Fort Knox Federal Directly Helps Military Families Through USA Cares
01 December

In 2016, Fort Knox Federal Credit Union has donated over $21,000 in assistance funding to USA Cares in support of veterans and military families facing hardships related to military service.

RADCLIFF, KY – December 2, 2016 – Fort Knox Federal Credit Union, in partnership with USA Cares, the national non-profit organization whose mission is to assist military families in crisis, has donated over $21,000 in assistance funding in 2016 to veterans and families facing hardships related to military service.

USA Cares provides emergency assistance to post-9/11 active duty U.S. military service personnel, military families and veterans who are transitioning back into civilian life after more than a decade of conflict. Since 2003, USA Cares has responded to more than 85,000 requests for aid and provided millions of dollars in granted assistance that the recipients are not required to repay. In 2016, Fort Knox Federal Credit Union and its members participating in USA Cares’ Patriot Club Membership Program have directly helped 26 military families avoid eviction, pay utility and auto bills, and buy food and fuel.

The Patriot Club is a membership program which helps pay it forward in support of veterans and military families. Members will receive discounts on admission to USA Cares events, email updates on upcoming initiatives and how donations directly benefit members of our military community who seek assistance. “The Patriot Club is open to anyone wishing to support our mission of helping bear the burdens of service by providing post-9/11 military families with financial and advocacy support in their time of crisis,” said Hank Patton, Executive Director of USA Cares. “For example, an Air Force Reserve veteran, who served two combat tours in Afghanistan and left the service after a diagnosis of PTSD, was scheduled to begin work for a government contractor.  Because the veteran had to wait a month before he got his first paycheck, he fell behind on his auto loan.  USA Cares assisted this veteran during his transition with a loan payment to avoid the loss of his transportation.”

USA Cares started as a grassroots partnership of the Fort Knox Chapter of the Association of the United States Army; Kroger Food Stores – Mid-South Division; and WAVE-3 TV, the NBC affiliate in Louisville, Kentucky. Fort Knox Federal Credit Union was one of USA Cares’ earliest supporters. Today, Fort Knox Federal is a frequent corporate contributor to USA Cares activities, including its Annual Gala to honor and raise money for active military, veterans and their families.

“We know better than other financial institutions in this area about the special needs of the military, civil service employees and their dependents,” said Ray Springsteen, President/CEO of Fort Knox Federal Credit Union. “Fort Knox Federal has been servicing the financial needs of its members for 65 years. Our organizational missions align in that both USA Cares and Fort Knox Federal are dedicated to improving the lives of our respective clients and members.”
