I was offered a Federal Technician job 6 or so hours north of where I was living. I accepted the job, because a job is a job at this point and with this economy, I couldn’t turn it down! I wasn’t too sure on how I was going to afford to move that far, afford the first months’ rent and deposit before I even started working. I started thinking I was going to have to find a place for my son to live for a month or so while I stayed in my car. Well thanks to USA Cares, I have my apartment, I’m working, and my son is living with me. I am very greatful to this organization and I’m glad there are such caring people out there! USA Cares is a wonderful organization!  Thank you, and my case worker Darrika, for such a quick response in handling my case.  She was very sincere, caring and kind.  I am a reserve master sergeant that went through some very tough times over this past year and USA Cares stepped in to cover the gap I wasn’t able to fill. I suffered from an injury and illnesses after serving 2003-2010 then was medically boarded and released from active duty April 2010 before my board was complete. Everything happened so fast and I was not prepared for what I was about to face. I experienced extreme financial distress, many hardships and injustices and had taken on the responsibility of caring for four grandchildren on my own.  Despite the hardships I can say that I have been blessed.  I thank God for your wonderful organization and those that “give a hand up”. Thanks for all you help, went to Project Victory for a brain injury that I suffered in Iraq in 2004. Things started going bad with my mental state with memory—have not got my VA rating for my trumatic brain injury, so I have no money and no job because the VA says that I am unemployable—that leaves us with not much! USA CARES helped me go to Houston to get help with skills I need to cope with memory and orginization skills. Now I am in limbo, not knowing what my next step is with the VA. Just to let you know USA cares does care, and my wife and I both thank you, with out you we would not been able to go to Houston to get the help the VA said I needed. Thanks - Kevin

My husband was injured in Ira—he has servere PTSD and TBI, among other injuries. He is now recovering from his 3rd back surgery and has two nero stimulaters implanted in his back to controll his severe migrain headaches. We have had so many financial probloms along the way, but I was lucky enough to get involved with USA Cares and Forest—he and USA Cares have been such a blessing in our lives, and I don’t know what we would have done without the assistance from them. They kept my lights on and my phone from being disconnected. Whenever I hear of or talk to a vet having trouble (like we had) I refer them to USA Cares. It feels good to know there are people who do care like they do. And I know in the days or months to come if I need them all I have to do is call. So I wanted to say “thank you” on behalf of my family and myself. You kept me going in a lot of trying times.

The process was smooth and Angela Suarez is extremely helpful and so caring. I felt like I did not do much—your process is quit efficient. I can’t think of anything that would make the process more streamlined, in applying for your aid. The turn-around is fantastic. The only obstacle that slowed me down was the 5 hr time zone differrence—Angela Suarez is a patient woman. Your organization is vital to the Armed Forces (and its) members.

I AM DEEPLY HUMBLED BY THE “HELP” I RECIEVED FROM “USA CARES.” WITHOUT THEIR ASSITANCE IN HELPING ME GET BACK ON TRACK DUE TO MY MENTAL CONDITIONS, I WOULD PROBABLY BE BACK LIVING IN MY TRUCK, AND THINKING NOBODY REALLY CARES ABOUT VETERANS.  BUT USA CARES AND REBBECA HAVE PROVEN TO ME THAT THEIR ARE SOME PEOPLE WHO TRULY DO AND WANT TO HELP. After my husband was injured overseas, it seemed our life was hitting rock bottom. USA Cares and our family resource coordinator, Pat, were our guardian angels, came to our rescue and truly cared about our family. With your help we were able to get back on our feet and give our kids a good Christmas.

It will be a long road for my husband with his injuries, however, now without the worry of being behind on our bills, it will be an easier road to travel. We just love Pat as if she is our family. Many thanks to her and the family of USA Cares. God Bless all!
